Indoor Classroom
Preschool...
The
Montessori classroom is geared to the child's size, pace and the interests
of the children between the ages of two and a half and six. The Montessori
materials are divided into three main groups. Practical Life Exercises help
to develop the hand eye coordination, concentration, a sense of order and
organizational skills. The Sensorial Materials provide the means by which
the child learns to discriminate by using all the senses. The Academic Materials
awaken the child's interest in language, mathematics, geography, music,
art, history, and science.
Elementary...
The
Montessori elementary program permits a variety of approaches, using at
every turn dynamic and colorful manipulative materials that materialize
the abstract. The elementary student is able to work in groups or choose
to work individually. The multi-aged setting, free verbalization and movement
also enrich the social life of the Montessori elementary. The curriculum
at Discovery Elementary School includes Mathematics, Language Arts, Reading,
Spelling, Montessori Culture (Geography, History, Science), Art, Music,
Foreign Language, Computers, and Physical Education. Our unique 5 acre campus
offers endless opportunities to explore nature and the living world around
us.
Past Jr. High Program...
(
We have had a successful Jr. High program for 9 years. Unfortunately, at
the present time we are not offering a Jr. High program, due to lack of
students. We plan on continuing this program as the need arises. )
Typically, Jr. High students have been isolated from their community for the duration of the school day. Yet, it is in this stage of development when children show their greatest interest in exploring their society. At Montessori, "Going Out" experiences are always the natural outcome of the student's questions about their work and the need to research sources outside the class for their answers.
